Love the game, basically this is the best team sport in the world. You spend 80 minutes trying to kill your opposite number (and anybodyelse in the opposition), and then are the first to buy him a pint afterwards. When watching internationals there is no segregation between fans, so you give opposition supporters banter when drinking with them before, during and after the game. There is no such thing as a rugby hooligan!! Did I mention that rugby and beer come hand in hand?!?!
First started playing rugby for Basingstoke minis aged 3, however stopped playing when came over to Guernsey aged 7 (Guernsey minis was not as well run then as it is now). Started playing again in lower sixth for College, and used to train at Guernsey RFC. College team used to play Grammer School, Guernsey Colts and a couple of Jersey schools, however I used to turn out for the colts when College didn't have a game or it was cancelled. Along with Freaky, was part of the College team that beatGrammer for the first time (this hadn't happened for a while since they used to play at the Grammer from age 11). We used to love the fact that we drew bigger crowds than the footie team, and they wanted to play rugby as well. Played a minimal amount at University for my hall in the first year, but then recruited by Pierre Rawlins-Duquemin to St Jacques RFC in holidays of final year. Finally broke into the first 15 in 2000. |
